Settlements

Settlements are the engine that resolves debts and balances between project members.

How Settlements Work

A Settlement record tracks a debt or a payment between two people within the project. It differs from an Operation because it focuses on the balance between members rather than the balance of a specific wallet.

Direct Payments

If you owe someone money and you pay them back outside of the project (e.g., via a bank transfer or cash), you log a Settlement to reflect that this debt has been cleared.

Settlements in Entries

Often, settlements happen as part of an entry. Example: You pay $100 for a group dinner. The $100 comes out of your wallet (an Operation), but $50 of that is actually an expense for another member (a Settlement).

Incomy automatically tracks these relationships so you always know who owes what at the end of the trip or the month.
